Part 2 of the September Charity Challenge took place on Sunday 18th September at the Olympic rowing venue of Eton Dorney near Windsor.
A 5am start on a Sunday morning and a 4 hour drive was just part of the challenge for the team this weekend. We received a message just before we arrived at the venue to say that due to an overnight algae bloom in the lake meant the swimming part of the triathlon had to be cancelled and the relay would be held as a duathlon instead! So Dave took on the first run (in borrowed too small trainers!) and Gavin took on the cycle with Helen running the final leg.
After a very speedy start from Dave on the first run, it was 8 laps round the lake on the bike then a 10km run ending with the team crossing the finish line together to claim their medals.
We were happy to come 40th out of 74 teams in the relay as there were some very experienced and quick athletes competing. We also met up with the SOS Children’s Villages representatives for an obligatory medal photo which they posted on their social media channels and thanked us for our support and fundraising.
A great day was had by all in the end and plans were already being made on the drive home to return to take on the individual full triathlon next year!
