Our Journey So Far

Joseph Marr, based in Hull, opened his first fish smokehouse, curing locally caught fish by renting two fish curers. This marked the start of the Marr family's long-standing connection to the seafood industry.

The company moved to Fleetwood, a key fishing port at the time. By then, the Marr fleet had grown to 32 steam trawlers, with 11 more vessels on order, cementing its reputation as a leading force in British fishing.

The Marr Group acquired Andrew Johnson Knudtzon Ltd, adding a new 6,000-ton capacity cold storage warehouse to its operations.

P & J Johnson Ltd was incorporated on 2 April 1963. The company became one of the leading firms involved in fishing vessels and fish sales, continuing the Marr family's deep roots in the UK fishing industry.

Incorporated in 1979, J. Marr (Seafoods) was established to source and supply pelagic fish to international markets.

Alan and Andrew Marr restructured the family business to ensure its continued growth and succession. The demerger led to the creation of Andrew Marr International, which became the Group's principal holding company, driving its expansion into global seafood and commodities trading.

Fastnet Fish Ltd was incorporated on 19 January 1987, specialising in UK fish imports and distribution. This addition reinforced the Group's end-to-end supply capabilities across the seafood industry.

Marrfish Ltd was incorporated on 28 October 2009, born from the Marr family’s long fishing heritage. The company was created to deliver fresh, high-quality fish directly to the hospitality and restaurant trade.

J. Marr (Commodities) Ltd was incorporated on 11th November 2010 to broaden the Group’s global trading portfolio. Building on our established supplier relationships, the company expanded our capabilities beyond seafood into a wider range of frozen proteins and essential food commodities.

J. Marr Shanghai was established on 28th December 2015 to enhance our presence in the Asian markets. With a dedicated local team on the ground, the company enables closer collaboration with suppliers and customers, fostering stronger relationships and greater market responsiveness.

Marrfish opened a purpose-built filleting complex in Grimsby, enhancing production capabilities in the heart of the UK’s seafood capital.

J. Marr (Dry Foods) Ltd was incorporated on 15th December 2020, broadening our trading capabilities into the dry food sector. This addition strengthened the Group’s ability to deliver a wider range of high-quality products to global partners and markets.

J. Marr (Europe) Ltd was incorporated on 29th June 2023 to reinforce our commitment to the European market. With a local presence and regional expertise, this expansion allows us to serve customers more effectively and build lasting partnerships across Europe.
