J Marr participates in charity 6-a-side football fundraiser
17th July 2024
On Saturday, 13th July, J Marr proudly participated in the first-ever Hull & East Yorkshire Children's University 6-a-side football tournament. As one of our chosen charities for this year, we were thrilled to support such a fantastic cause while enjoying a day of teamwork and community spirit.
The tournament kicked off at 10am, and despite the relentless rain, the enthusiasm of our team and supporters never wavered. Our squad, in their navy and gold kits emblazoned with the J Marr 45-year logo, looked the part and were ready to give their best.
With limited preparation – just a few lunchtime training sessions – this was the first time our team had played together. Due to work commitments, we found ourselves without a dedicated goalkeeper. Displaying true teamwork, the lads took turns in goal, even braving the matches without gloves. Despite these challenges, they drew two of the four group games, with Tom scoring our sole goal and Reiss having a very unlucky goal disallowed.
Although it became clear after the four group games that we wouldn’t make it to the final, our team’s effort and determination were commendable. The old adage “It's the taking part that counts” was certainly true!
A big shoutout to all our J Marr colleagues who came to support our team, umbrellas in hand, braving the rain to cheer them on. Our team had the most spectators, which shows the great team spirit we have – both on and off the pitch.
Participating in this tournament was a wonderful experience, and we are proud to have supported Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University. We look forward to future events and opportunities to engage with our community and support meaningful causes.
Thank you to everyone who played, supported and made this day memorable despite the weather. Here’s to many more such events and stronger partnerships with our chosen charities.
