Finance Graduate Tom Reflects on a Successful Placement Year at J Marr

Over the past year, the J Marr team has had the pleasure of working alongside Tom, a Finance Graduate who joined us during his university placement year. Taking a year out of his studies at the University of Hull, where he’s pursuing a degree in Accounting and Finance, Tom was eager to gain hands-on experience in the financial world.

When asked why he chose J Marr for his placement, Tom shared,

“It was a very intriguing opportunity in a unique company. I wanted to get more hands-on experience and learn more than what I could at university.”

Throughout his time here, Tom embraced every opportunity to grow, both professionally and personally.

“I’ve loved making new friends, developing my knowledge, and learning how the company works,” he said.

Some of his favourite memories come from the moments outside the office:

“I’ve loved all the events out of work, especially the 10k and the Christmas party.”

Tom leaves with valuable experience and a new level of confidence.

“I’ve gained insight into how a business operates financially. I’ve developed key skills such as communication and Excel, and I think I’ve boosted my confidence from being in this environment.”

As he returns to complete his final year in Accounting and Finance at the University of Hull, Tom looks forward to a future career in finance—although he admits he’s still figuring out the specifics.

He leaves with a heartfelt message for the team:

“Thank you for all your kindness and support. I am grateful for the brilliant opportunity.”
