Christmas Charity Campaigns 2023 story
Successful Christmas charity campaign brings joy to people across Hull.
This year our Christmas charity campaign supported two great local causes, the Hull 4 Heroes hamper appeal, and the Hull Women’s Aid Christmas gift campaign.
Throughout December, our employees supplied food items for Hull 4 Heroes and gifts for women and children for Hull Women’s Aid and also supported a raffle to raise money for both causes.
Hull 4 Heroes supports veterans from across the Hull area. Founded by Paul Matson in 2016, the charity’s ultimate aim is to create a ‘Veteran’s Street’ in Hull where ex-servicemen and women can receive the support they need upon leaving the armed forces. The charity also helps ensure local veterans have access to accommodation, education and employment support.
Hull Women’s Aid supports women and children across Hull and East Yorkshire fleeing domestic abuse. The charity is the sole provider of this support in our region, providing emergency refuge and practical support for those in need, as well as working to increase understanding and visibility of the issue of domestic violence in our region.
Both charities shared the news of our donations on their social media pages with lovely messages of thanks.
We’re extremely proud of the efforts of everyone who donated items or bought raffle tickets and their commitment to these good causes, which we know helped make a huge difference to those in need locally at Christmastime.
Christmas 2023 at J Marr
Christmas cheer aplenty at J Marr festive events.
J Marr had a fantastic end to 2023 with some amazing Christmas festivities!
With events including our annual staff Christmas party, Christmas raffle and our Christmas lunch, colleagues celebrated in style as the year came to an end. Our Christmas party was held on December 9th at Bar 82 in Hull city centre. Despite the terrible weather on the night, everyone put their best foot forward and had an extremely enjoyable evening. Staff spent the evening in the upstairs area, which was decorated with our colourfully branded balloons and made exclusively available to us. Starting the night with a bespoke shooter called the Blue Whiting, we then indulged in food and cocktails. The night continued with more drinks and dancing downstairs into the small hours, with a great night had by all.
Many thanks go to Clare and Katie, who did such a great job organising the event.
Then on the 14h December, it was time for our Christmas raffle, which was held to raise money for this year’s good causes, the Hull 4 Heroes hamper appeal, and the Hull Women’s Aid Christmas gift campaign. With 50 fantastic prizes on offer this was J Marr’s biggest raffle to date, and a fantastic £317.00 was raised in total. Janice was the event’s big winner– taking away a massive 11 prizes - including our main prize, a delicious handmade cheese & chutney hamper (that everyone wanted to win!) Well done Janice. We’d like to say thank you to everyone who bought tickets or contributed prizes.
Last but not least, we enjoyed our annual office Christmas lunch on December 22nd. This two-course sit down meal was provided by Vannucci’s Catering, alongside table service by two of the caterers young helpers. The meal was held in J Marr upstairs meeting room, with extra tables and chairs added so that everyone was accommodated. Staff even got a little Christmas treat bag with chocolates and a mini bottle of Tequila Rose.Delicious food, great company and lots of laughs were had
